Because breakfast is the most important meal of the day

Two days ago, we moved to our new house. Much as I’d like to post cooking videos right now, the truth is that the kitchen is still in various stages of disarray. Twenty boxes of kitchen stuff — from cooking utensils to baking paraphernalia to condiments and spices — had to be packed and moved, and it’s going to take a few more days to get everything organized.

But, being the obsessive blogger than I am, that doesn’t mean that Pinoy Cook readers will have to wait before enjoying new recipes and cooking ideas. One of the things my family plans on changing is our eating habits. Of course, the change began a while back when we cut down drastically on our red meat consumption. That was followed by the low-fat and low-sugar diet that my doctor required. In addition to all that, we plan on breaking away from our habit of being too lazy to eat breakfast. We will be breakfast eaters from now on. A daily habit is not easy to acquire but, at least, we’ve taken the first steps.

Since the breakfast habit is a phase in our lives that I think is worth sharing, I will be documenting our daily breakfasts, all of which will be posted in a separate blog. The packed school lunches and the recipes for the main meals will still be posted in Pinoy Cook.

Is the new breakfast blog going to be just another recipe blog? No, it isn’t. Every breakfast entry will be accompanied by links and summaries to the most important food and health news of the day. That’s my way of keeping up with food and health trends.

Now, a snippet of what you can expect to find in the breakfast blog.

Below are some of the breakfasts we have enjoyed during our last days in our old house. I was really planning on posting full breakfast entries in the new blog before we moved but the packing took all of my time and energy.

    Before working in my job of 1 1/2 years, i never ate breakfast. I just had water. Sometimes a snack at around 10am. During weekends, sleep is more important than breakfast. But, you’re right, breakfast is important. I just gotta wake, or just dream about breakfast.

    Peterb, I was the same way. I remember eating breakfast regularly when I was in school but, after that, ahhh the morning rush of a working gal… LOL

    We are breakfast eaters in the family, although it was easy to skip this wonderful meal as a student and working person.

    My mom still insists on two-hour breakfasts since we now run our own businesses. So it’s good to know you’ll be exploring a whole new beautiful world of morning meals.

    Of course, running a B&B in Baguio means I ONLY serve breakfasts mostly. :)

    My grandma though, ate ONLY PORK and chocolate for 91 years and didn’t really have a problem with health. My tita Laura chainsmoked for 60 years till she died in her sleep at 89 years old. My grandfather watched his diet ALL his life, deprived himself of everything and lived till 70. A 33 year old vegetarian friend just got a goiter operation (no red meat, no iodized salt?)

    So honestly, I think living longer and painlessly is more about less stress and good genes than diet.

    Will the next thing I hear is you dispensing with the nicotine and caffeine? Quitters never win! Hahaha!

    Hi Connie,

    My goodness I can’t believe some people don’t eat breakfast!! I can say that because I always have a huge breakfast. I need it! If I don’t have my big brekky in the morning, I don’t feel right. I get soo hungry mid-morning and then I tend to eat more during the day. By eating breakfast, I feel full until mid-afternoon and then I just have a light dinner =)

    My breakfasts are usually left-overs from lastnight’s dinner =)

    HAHAHAHAHA And what will fuel the writing? LOL I’m willing to give up some things but not everything. I think that’s taking away the spice of life hahahaha

    Ellen, you won’t believe how many people I know who miss breakfast. Well, unless a cup of coffee qualifies as breakfast.

    we are breakfast eaters. we simply can’t live without breakfast.

    Congratulations you guys have finally moved to your new house, hopefully it’ll be for keeps! hehehe. The kitchen looks great, okay lang po yung kalat, we understand! With regards to breakfast, I always make sure that my 5 yr old daughter eats breakfast everyday whether it’s a pancake, cereals or noodles. She goes to school in the afternoon and she eats lunch before leaving the house. But now that my work hours are changing starting next week, I’ll be working an early morning of 5:30am, so when September comes she’ll be in school all day, I have to prepare their breakfast and my husband must make sure she eats right. She’s not really bread/muffin eater, I guess I have to get her used to eating them, coz sometimes I feel bad that she eats the same breakfast over and over again. I’ll be looking forward to your new breakfast blog

    Wow,i like your new kitchen and the marble floor…
    True,breakfast is the important meal of the day.My typical breakfast is muesli and yoghurt and fruits.My daughter who is 5 years old always have a big brekky,iether porridge,muesli with banana and yoghurt before going to school.They reckon(the teachers)kids pay more attention when their tummy is full of breakfast than those didn’t .Here in New Zealand, schools incourage the parents to have their children eat breakfast before going to school.
    We do have waffle every sunday my daughter loves them and me too!!!!
    Looking forward for more new recipes.(=

    congratulations on your new house! don’t stress yourself with the unpacking, mauubos din yan, wag mo na lang tanong kung kelan.. he he…

    i wasn’t a breakfast person too, that is, until i had my kids. at the back of my mind i knew how important it is kaya lang parang mas masarap magkape lang! but now i’m forced to have the habit too. talk about being good example. thanks and i’m looking forward to your new entries :)

    coz i always doesn’t have enough time to prepare it although a cup of milo..
    everything moving fast and i need faster than that..
    so..how come i get breakfast for everyday………….

    When I started to eat less at night (veg + fruit only or eating before 6:00) I realised I was hungry and starving in the morning, hence I could eat a hearty breakfast… give it a try.
