Cooking for Christmas and the New Year

UPDATE on December 16, 2007 @ 2.35 p.m.

At around 3.00 p.m. yesterday, I received a text message from the Production Assistant of Jessica Soho’s show to inform me that some editing problems occurred and they weren’t sure if the episode could be aired last night. By 7.30 p.m., the “not sure” situation had not changed. I was assured, however, that the episode would be aired at a later date.

I have a lot to say about the unprofessionalism of those people but I’ll reserve that elsewhere. Suffice to say that I was caught in that position where I could not make any definite announcement even as late as 8.00 p.m. last night.

At any rate, the recipes for the dishes I cooked for that episode will be posted within the next 48 hours. In fact, the tropical fresh fruits salad recipe is already live in the Noche Buena Blog section. I am not screwing up my posting schedule for them anymore.

End of update

champagneA few days ago, I announced that, henceforth, cooking videos will become a part of Pinoy Cook. Well, it’s coming true very soon but not exactly in the way I envisioned it. Not the kickoff entry anyway. The first cooking video was shot in my kitchen but it isn’t a home made video. It was taken by a professional TV crew with big lights, big cam and it’s going to come out on TV on December 15th. It’s not something I planned for nor asked for nor whored for. It just happened and it happened so fast. On Sunday evening, someone from Manila Standard Today (where I write a twice weekly opinion column) said someone from GMA 7 wanted to get in touch with me. On Tuesday afternoon, that’s yesterday, the video was shot. Four dishes for a budget noche buena.

I normally don’t make prior announcements about TV guestings but I’m pretty proud of what was accomplished yesterday. Four dishes for P1,150.00 and none of them looked nor tasted like they were ordinary.

It seems like there’s no better time either to make yet another announcement. But, first, an acknowledgment that I have received — and read — your emails asking for suggestions for the noche buena. The TV guesting is one response to that but I have an even better one. There’s going to be a Noche Buena Blog section and it will go live exactly one week from now, December 12th, which also happens to be our 16th wedding anniversary.

What will the Noche Buena Blog section contain? It’s going to be divided into suggested menus and each menu will be categorized into levels of cooking skills. Hence, there will be a menu for the rookie cook, for the intermediate cook and for the advanced cook. There will be tips about ingredients, where to find them and what substitutes can be used without ruining your noche buena masterpieces. Sounds good? Oh, did I mention that the Noche Buena Blog will be photo intensive with full recipes?

P.S. The TV show is Jessica Soho Reports… okay, it’s Jessica Soho’s show, don’t know by what title it comes these days but it’s going to be on Saturday, December 15, 9.00 p.m.

Date and time saved! I’m not going to miss that! That Noche Buena blog is perfect! I have to cook for my daughter’s bday on the 17th, 2 other gatherings, Christmas and New Year. So many choices on what to cook and i’m still not decided. I’m thinking whether i should stick to something i know or try something new.

  2. Nadia says:

Congrats! You know since its the Christmas season and all let me just extend my appreciation. I really appreciate the effort you make to come up with recipes that are doable for almost everyone, especially for us mothers who have young children to feed. I believe that thru this blog you have proven that children can be fed nutritiously and we as parents need not succumb to the junk food and convenience craze. Well, ms connie thank you really for the recipes and the invaluable ideas. Makes me wonder sometimes too why there are others who have the temerity to criticize pa din. I have come across a few food blogs where there are hardly any recipes..the blogger being a chef, food writer or in one way or another related to the food industry. I guess these people are not as generous. Kaya nga yung may mag criticize pa….amazing. And one thing that really draws me to your blog is its like being at home..there are no pretensions…its just simple, good home cooking. I like that. You don’t try to impress with expensive hard to find ingredients. And i am happy to report that my children have just recently informed me that they don’t want to have hotdogs in their packed lunches…they would prefer in their words “lutong food”, and this from kids who hardly have hotdogs. Again, thank you most especially for the idea that cooking can be fun and we need not restrict ourselves to what has been done over and over again. If only i could get my mom to agree with me…hahaha,

red, what do you mean “marami ang sabit”? i’m on a dedicated server — only my blogs in one server and I monitor it, so I don’t understand. If you’re referring to “cookies”, that’s really a browser issue.
