Dairy Queen’s Waffle Treat

Ciao for now! ~ ConnieAfter a very satisfying Vietnamese meal at Pho Hoa last Sunday, we had about 30 minutes to kill before the 3.10 p.m. screening of The Brave One. My daughter Sam wanted dessert at Jack’s Loft but I felt that those sinfully rich cakes would be much too heavy. Her dad suggested ice cream at Dairy Queen instead and off we went. The idea, naturally, was to order some small items just to satisfy the craving for sweets. But… Sam ordered a 12-oz Butterfinger Blizzard, Alex went for a 12-oz Oreo Cookie Blizzard and their dad had a 12-oz Rocky Road Blizzard.
I’ve said it before — I’m not big on ice cream. I find it boring. UNLESS… Look at it this way. Ice cream, by itself, means one flavor and one texture. But… add some nuts, syrup, fudge, crushed fruit and whipped cream and, suddenly, the old boring ice cream becomes utterly exciting. So, there I was thinking of getting a single scoop of ice cream in a cone until I saw the latest item in Dairy Queen’s menu — the Waffle Treat.
The Waffle Treat comes in three varieties. I chose the one with caramel and pecan nuts. To be more precise with the description, Waffle Treat goes like this: Start with a waffle with the edges dipped in chocolate and molded in a bowl while still warm and soft. Two scoops of ice cream are placed at the center of the waffle, instant-freezing chocolate is added, then a generous amount of whipped cream, caramel syrup and, finally, pecan nuts.
I know, I know. It wasn’t a light dessert at all. And, believe me, I took my sweet time finishing it. Everybody’s Blizzard has been consumed and I was still sitting there finishing my Waffle Treat. I would have stopped after the ice cream, whipped cream, caramel and nuts but how could I let that chocolate-edged waffle go to waste…??? It was a one-way trip to ice cream heaven.

I’m embarrassed to admit that my husband and I share a strange attraction (addiction?) to Dairy Queen chocolate hot fudge sundaes. There aren’t many DQs left in our part of New England, but we can’t pass one without pulling in and having ice cream. Of course there’s nothing real about this ice cream — whipped air, really — but it’s irresistible!

My typical day at the office starts with opening my email then ogling/salivating at all these food in Pinoycook, then I go a step further and make it a point to eat them during lunchbreak or the day after.
Imagine what my obgyne will have to say about that.
I don’t have a sweet tooth, but wow, that dessert looks fantastically sinful.

i haven’t been to DQ’s at all ,but your ice cream
makes me drool. I think i’m like you, not an ice cream person.i did try some spumante last sunday in locally made family shoppe, it was really good but i made my husband eat most of it…..2 scoops is just too much.
i love DQ! but it’s almost a yr ago since i last ate the caramel and pecan waffle treat.
my all time DQ fave is walnut-fudge blizzard.
