Fish and broccoli in oyster sauce
Today’s school lunch. Or, rather, what would have been the kids’ packed school lunch had they gone to school. But they didn’t. The way I understood it, they want one full day of rest before the second trimestral exams begin tomorrow. Had they told me last night, I wouldn’t have bothered getting up at 6.00 a.m.
So, what should have been their school lunch became their breakfast. And they feasted.

To make these fish fillets with broccoli in oyster sauce, you will need:
300 g. of fish fillets (any firm fleshy fish will do)
1 small head of broccoli, cut into florets
1 tbsps. of finely minced garlic
1 small onion, diced
salt and pepper
1/2 c. of fine bread crumbs
1 c. of cooking oil
2 tbsps. of oyster sauce
1/2 tsp. of sugar
1 tsp. of tapioca or corn starch, dispersed in 1 c. of water
1/4 tsp. of sesame seed oil
Cooking procedure :
Cut the fish fillets into 1/2-inch cubes. Season with salt and pepper. Add the brread crumbs and toss to coat each piece.
Heat the cooking oil in a wok or frying pan. Deep fry the breaded fish fillets until golden brown. Drain on paper towels and set aside.
Pour off the cooking oil until only a tablespoonful remains. Saute the garlic and onion for about 30 seconds. Add the broccoli florets and stir fry for about a minute. Add the fish fillets and cook until heated through, about 30 seconds.
Stir the oyster sauce and sugar into the starch solution. Pour onto the fish and broccoli and cook, stirring, until the sauce is thick and clear. Turn off the heat. Stir in the sesame seed oil. Add more salt if necessary.

wow, connie! it’s christmas eve but i’m here browsing on your food blog! lol. my eldest son is here and staying until new year, and i want to feed him veggies coz he is a fastfood guy. he works in makati as web designer and you know – when under pressure, he and his team mates would just grab a bite at the nearest resto. not a very healthy habit.
also, my new year’s resolution is – to spend more time in the kitchen… coz nakakahiyang aminin, but – i’m not really a ‘kitchen mom’. hubby does most of the cooking, or the househelp if there’s one currently employed.
merry christmas!
my dad made this except he used shrimps.. sarap
