Lemongrass (tanglad) in my garden

You can buy lemongrass cheaply from the market. They are so inexpensive, in fact, that your transportation cost will be a dozen times more than the cost of the lemongrass. That’s why I decided that planting my own lemongrass was wiser. I bought two pots, each with no more than three stalks, a couple of months ago and look how much they have grown. I just pull off a stalk or two every time I need lemongrass for my cooking. Oh, they’re great for tea infusions too.

lemon grass so I can start an Herb Garden.

Manila Seedling Bank in Quezon City. Potted herbs are also for sale at Market! Market! but I am not sure if they have lemongrass.

hello miss connie. :) i really love your blog. i learn a lot and cooking/baking is my passion.

i am from pampanga and i just want to ask if you know the tagalog for basil? my husband and son loves pesto but i simply don’t know where to get fresh basil. i tried SM hypermarket and haven’t seen basil in their items nor do they carry potted herbs unlike there in the greater manila area.

i hope you can help me on this. i have searched online and it appears that balanoy is the tagalog term. it is the first time that i have heard of this word. hope you can help me on this. thanks.

Tina, it’s called basil in the supermarkets and you’ll find them in the chilled veggies section. Potted basil is available at Market! Market!, Manila Seedling Bank and even one plant store in SM MEgamall (near the door across National Bookstore).

Thanks to my neighbor, they have lemon grass and voila! I uprooted the plant and placed it in my garden.
