From Greece, with love

gifts from a fellow Filipina foodie in GreeceI met her on the net. Since I don’t have her permission yet to publish her name, let me introduce her as a Filipina living in Greece and moving to Norway soon. Actually, she might already be in Norway by now. A couple of Filipinas she knows came home to the last week and she e-mailed me that she would be sending a package. Although I already knew that there would be a cookbook and some herbs, I wasn’t quite expecting the heavy package that I received. A cookbook, herbs, herbed salt, a bottle of Greek olive oil, chocolates and candies. My 12-year-old daughter, who will soon be joining the ranks of food and photo bloggers, was all smiles when she saw the bags of gummy bears. She’s nuts over them. Big time. And I, of course, was poring over the cookbook and magazine almost immediately.

I took the photo just this morning which should explain why the candies and the chocolates are not in it. They’ve been gone days ago.

To you who sent them (just post a comment if it’s alright to publish your name :) ), thank you for the thoughtfulness. I was especially touched by the note on the flyleaf of the cookbook where you said, “You are my connection to my constant dream of going home to the Philippines soon!” You can’t know how good those words made me feel when I first read them.

P.S. Oh, I forgot… she sent a some basil and thyme as well. I just remembered because I used the basil to make my chicken, tomatoes and cabbage soup. ;-P

hi, here’s the souvlaki recipe (it’s obviously not authentic (soy sauce in greek food?), but it tastes very, very good. hope you’ll try and enjoy it.
1 kg. pork tenderloin- cubed 2″
    1/4 c olive oil
    1/4 c. soy sauce
    1 lemon, juiced
2 t italian seasoning ( the original recipe calls for 1 t dried oregano)
    2-3 garlic, crushed
    salt and pepper to taste
Just marinade the pork in this mixture overnight. Throw in cubed bell peppers and quartered onions to the pork marinade as well.
when ready, grill in stove top grill. the recipe said use skewers, i don’t anymore but, for better presentation, thread the pork alternately with the bell pepper and onion.

serve with tortillas ( village gourmet) and this amazing sauce-
    1 c sour cream
1 small block of feta ( not mainland, the Arla? brand, it’s blue, around php 130+, mas mura sa s&r)
    1-2 garlic, crushed
just cream together this three and season with salt and pepper to taste
Masarap talaga ito…pag kumain ka sa cyma, i-compare mo if halos pareho. very close in my opinion.
