Green mango juice
November 19, 2009 • Hello. I am currently out of the country and unable to respond to comments and e-mails. Rest assured, however, that future posts have been scheduled so new recipes will go live almost everyday during my absence. I'll be back soon with lots of stories and photos. Ciao for now! ~ ConnieBeen craving for green mango juice. If there’s anything attractive about Philippine summers, it’s the abundance of mangoes–ripe and unripe.
Mangoes that are just starting to ripen are best for making green mango juice. The skin is usually still green but the meat–or pulp–is starting to turn yellow. The very green unripe mangoes, usually diced for salads, don’t make very smooth purees. The ones that are still sour but with the meat starting to soften towards ripeness are the ones that make wonderful green mango juice.

To make fresh green mango juice: dice the meat, place in the blender or food processor with a little water and LOTS of white sugar (or sugar substitute, if you prefer). You will need a LOT of sugar to kill the sourness. Process until you get a smooth puree. Pour into glasses and add crushed ice.
If you want to cheat, go to Tiendesitas and look for the EJC food store (Danding Cojuangco’s farm produce) where you can buy sweetened green mango puree. Just add water and ice and it’s just like drinking juice made from freshly pureed green mangoes.
Relly, I hope you enjoy this entry. I wish you can get green mangoes in France so you can enjoy this tropical summer drink.

Eh I like to eat green mangoes rather than drink it. Once in a while, I order this drink and after drinking, my eyes starts acting up (due to the high sugar content)
I don’t know if it will work to others. I feel a slight and sometimes total relief of hangover when I drink this green mango juice after being over refreshed from an evening’s unwinding bout.
Oh, right, noemi. Cause unless you load the thing with sugar, it’s going to be so sour.
LOL Trosp, now that’s a tip!
It looks delicious… imagine ko na lang ang lasa.
We cannot get the same variety here… Salamat ha!
Can i put bagoong on it? just kidding… But there is this version i saw in one cookbook that uses Sprite instead of water..hmmm..maybe diet Sprite for those calorie consious.
You’re welcome, Relly.
Lee, the sprite is added to the puree, I guess. Not while pureeing? Kasi aapaw yun.
