Meat pie and soup at Bag of Beans
After enjoying the scrumptious desserts and marvelous breakfast at Bag of Beans, I promised myself that the next time we were in Tagaytay City, we would try their famous meat pies. And so, we did. We had lunch at Bag of Beans recently and I convinced everyone that a whole pie was more than enough for the four of us.
There was an initial debate as to what kind of pie we would order. Sam wanted the beef and gravy pie, Alex and Speedy voted for chicken and mushrooms pie, I would have preferred the beef and mushrooms pie. Well, democracy dictated that Sam and I had to agree to the chicken and mushrooms pie. Since it would take about 30 minutes to get the pie ready, we ordered soup while waiting for the pie to bake.
Sam and Alex each had a bowl of pumpkin soup (above). Speedy and I enjoyed a clear soup with slices of fresh shiitake mushrooms. The dinner rolls served on the side were wonderful, as usual.
For some reason, the kids did not enjoy the chicken and mushrooms pie but their Dad and I were very much happy with it. We especially loved the crust—substantial and wonderfully flaky. Despite the amount of cream in the filling, the crust did not turn out soggy. A slice was filling enough so we had leftovers. We brought home three slices of pie since Speedy still managed to go for a second slice.

We got caught in bad traffic jam in Carmona, Cavite on the way home and, by the time we reached Marikina, the kids were hungry. Despite her adamant insistence that she did not like the chicken and mushrooms pie, Sam ate an entire slice in the backseat of the car. Knowing her, she would never eat anything she didn’t really like no matter how hungry she was. I figured she only said she didn’t like the pie because we didn’t go along with her in ordering the beef and gravy pie.
Oh, well, next time we’re in Tagaytay, we’ll order pasta at Bag of Beans.

On our way to Tagaytay, WatsOn texted me and said to go to Bag of Beans. We were so glad we did. It was a beautiful place to have a snack and the food was good. I even bought bags of their coffee beans that my husband is still raving over. If ever we get a chance to go back to Tagaytay again (you guys are so lucky to be able to just GO) we will definitely be stopping at Bag of Beans.
LOL JMom, I bet there are equally good establishments there.
The likes of Bag of Beans are such gems. Too bad there aren’t too many like it.
G’day Connie
Is Anton’s Coffee Alamid @ Bag of Beans, Tagaytay blog at http://anton.blogs.com/awesome/2006/02/coffee_alamid_b.html true?
If it is, I’m not sure I’d really want to try Coffee Alamid. Have you tried it?
Oh, well, next time weÕre in Tagaytay, weÕll order pasta at Bag of Beans.
so is that a yay or nay for the pies?! hehehe
On a somewhat-related note, Dulcinea’s pot pies aren’t too shabby.
OzyChris, it’s true. We ALMOST tried it the first time we were there… Well, actually, my daughter almost did then chickened out. LOL
mumai, that’s a yay. LOL we just want to try everything in the menu.
Gaby, I have a very bad experience with Dulcinea. Bought a couple of fruit cakes there in Christmas 2005 and they were just awful. The glazed fruits were sprinkled on top instead of baked in. Haven’t gone there since. I had Dulcinea breakfast almost everyday though when I was preggy with Sam.
Those meat pies look amazing. I’m going to have to do like you did and find it when I’m in town. So yesterday I got one of those cool new Bosch Mixers shipped to my house and the first thing I used it for was a Pumpkin Soup! I tried to make it from memory but it’s not like my mom’s (who sadly passed away last year). Do any of you have good recipies that would help me find a suitable substitution?
Bag of Beans doesn’t serve Coffee Alamid anymore
But the good thing is that their desserts are still to die for. Next time, we’re trying out their meat pies and the other stuff on the menu. I hope we don’t order them all
Thanks again, Connie
