Mocha Blends
November 19, 2009 • Hello. I am currently out of the country and unable to respond to comments and e-mails. Rest assured, however, that future posts have been scheduled so new recipes will go live almost everyday during my absence. I'll be back soon with lots of stories and photos. Ciao for now! ~ Connie

Mocha Blends is a cafŽ–one of the few we hadn’t tried until last weekend. We went to see Ice Age 2 at the Robinson’s East Mall and we decided to have an early dinner first. Dinner was at Star Carrots (I’ll post an entry about that next) and we wanted to have dessert and coffee after the meal. I wanted to go to FirenzŽ but there weren’t too many cakes to choose from. The Coffee Experience was nowhere to be found so went down to the ground floor where Mocha Blends was.
The ambience was okay. Not as hyped up as Starbucks–it was dim, quiet and relaxing. We ordered our drinks, the kids with their frothy choices, while my husband and I chose the make-your-own item. Then, I ordered cakes–a slice of Carrot cake and a slice of Opera cake. They were the only ones that looked interesting.
The drinks were okay. I liked the Opera cake but the carrot cake was rather dry–probably from sitting in the fridge for several days. Still, I would have been happy. Until I saw this tiny mouse running on the floor. We hurriedly stood up–I paid the bill right on the counter instead of waiting for the waiter to bring it over. I told the cashier, ”May maliit na daga na tumatakbo-takbo (There’s a small mouse running around).” He laughed and replied, ”Ay, oo Ma’am, alaga namin ‘yan–hindi kasi mahuli-huli (Oh, yes, Ma’am, our pet–we’ve never been able to catch it).”
Well, we’re never going back there.
