Pumpkin and walnut cake

You’d think that a month after my birthday, the celebrations would have long been over. But two of my closest friends from the U.P. College of Law, Lisa and Ida, came over last Saturday. I prepared beef stroganoff for them and served it with pasta. Lisa brought a cake, with two candles, one for me and one for Ida who had her birthday four days ahead of me.

Pumpkin walnut cake by WheatberryPumpkin and walnut cake from Wheatberry, an artisan bakery specializing on bread. Because Lisa and I are both bloggers, we took time out to take photos that would do justice to the luscious confection. Ida, impatient to start digging in, had to watch until we were satisfied that we had taken enough photos. Then, we blew out the candles before I cut and served the cake. Pumpkin and walnut cake? Yes. Think carrot cake but with pumpkin instead, covered with thick cream cheese frosting lattice style. The sides are smothered with chopped walnuts while larger chunks are mixed in. Darn, it was good. Nothing saccharine sweet but just sweet enough to satisfy the taste buds which made it perfect with coffee.

A snippet of the product concept from the Wheatberry website: “Wheatberry’s main products focuses on breads which uses natural and healthy ingredients like our herb and cheese roll & foccacia bread which uses fresh herbs. We also have breads that makes use of whole wheat flour and oat flour which is full of fiber that is good for the body. Since we do not mix our breads with a lot of improvers, which prolongs the shelf life of most bread products, we recommend that our breads be eaten within a 2 day period to ensure freshness. In line with this, we offer a 30% discount on most of our bread products 2 hours before closing to make sure that there would be no leftover breads.”

Next time we’re in the Tomas Morato area, I’ll make sure that we drop by Wheatberry. And since they sell their baked products at 30% off two hours before closing time, maybe we can drop by late at night and bring home enough goodies to invite friends to a tea party the next day. :)

Hehe… lapit lang namin sa Tomas Morato area! This is really something that I’d like to try together with my family!! Thanks again, Connie! You are living such a charmed life ;) … I am so happy for you!

By the way, kumusta naman ang prices nila sa Wheatberry? Delicious rin ba?
Sorry, my hectic sked has kept me from visiting your site more often…

Concep, young or old, that cake is a hit! LOL

Crisma, pag napunta ako dun, I’ll note the prices. Right now, I really have no idea. Re “charmed life” I really have nothing to complain about at this point in my life. Hope it stays like this always. :)

    Hi Chrisma,

The price of the pumpkin and walnut cake for the personal size is Php455 and lest Connie thinks I’m a cheap friend, please know that I did try to get the regular sized one (Php855) but they did not have a whole cake at the time.

Wheatberry is located at the corner of Scout Tuazon and Scout Castor Streets, a little off Tomas Morato Avenue.

    :)

Lisa, re “lest Connie thinks I’m a cheap friend…” If it were you’re birthday, I’d get you something for less than P300. HAHAHAHAHA

  7. Crisma says:

Thanks, Connie… and thanks, too Lisa—for starters, I think I’d also get the personal size muna. And then maybe we’d be coming back for more!

Now,of course we know that friendships are measured not by the price of cakes— kahit na less than P300 or kahit na cupcake nga lang na merong 2 candles, di ba?

Haha– here’s looking forward to tasting that yummy pumpkin and walnut cake!

  8. Connie says:

True, true. Even giftless is fine. :) Lisa and I go way, way back and friendship is the best gift. Di pa consumable. LOL

  9. Crisma says:

    Truly PRICELESS! ;)
