Speedy’s chicken burgers
I’m not so sure if I’ve mentioned before that we have a “Sunday arrangement” in the house. I don’t cook on Sundays. Or, at least, that was the agreement between my husband and myself. He’s supposed to do the cooking on Sundays. From cheese omelets to fried hotdogs and eggs, he can now cook wonderful pork chops and nilagang baka too. But prior to last Sunday, I really can’t remember when it was that he last cooked a Sunday meal. What I do remember is that we have been going out most Sundays so that his cooking assignment had been limited to breakfast. And that often meant thawing some cold cuts from the fridge and putting them on the table.

Well, there was no lusot for him last Sunday. He didn’t want to go out because he wanted to watch the Pacquiao-Morales bout. Bright and early Sunday morning, I asked him what he would like me to thaw from the freezer. I told him we had a rolled pork for roasting, beef short ribs, ground chicken, three kinds of fish… He asked if we had hotdogs and I said no, we didn’t. LOL
Anyway, he made chicken burgers for lunch from a couple of packs of ground chicken that I bought a few days earlier. He even went on a quick trip to the grocery because we were out of eggs and bread crumbs (of course, he didn’t want to make his own bread crumbs). Oh, he got back in time to cook the chicken burgers and to watch the boxing thingy. He had no help from me. And arranging the burgers with the lettuce and the sliced tomatoes was his doing. I’m proud of him, really.
As with the pork chops, I can’t tell you exactly how he cooked the burgers but, based on the mess that he left after cooking, he mixed the ground chicken with a couple of beaten eggs, chopped onion and garlic, salt, pepper and fine breadcrumbs. And he fried the burgers in butter. They were wonderful.

Maybe soon I could demand like that to my hubby! Well I could say he’s really good on cooking too…for spaghetti on his Special Secret of Dolmio (popular instant spaghetti sauce here), toasted sandwich with coldcuts, cheese, mayo and tomato sauce (ketchup) that cooked in our toaster sandwich pan…Period! LOL My gosh! I’m picking on my hubby now! ehehe!
I think it makes husbands appreciate home cooked meals more if they know how much effort goes into the preparation. You know, like they ought to think twice before deciding to be too fussy.
My hubby also does the cooking during weekends, since i attend class till saturday and sundays are the only time i have to myself, he’s happily taken over to preparing our meals. Hey, i can’t complain even if he does leave a mess in the kitchen too! (clean-as-you-go seems to be an alien concept for them no?). However, mine made sure he had everthing he needed Saturday pa lang so there was no need for him to leave the house on the day of the fight haha. Men…
wow, liway, lucky you there’s a Boy CHing Woo near your place. We live far away from Caloocan now where we enjoyed food from Boy Ching Woo.
LOL Nadia. Right. Men… with their kitchen mess and boxing. hehehe
My fiancé made me a Pizza Margherita once and I’ve got to say that it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had. I even finished the crust. (I NEVER eat the crust–I just like the toppings) He also cooks a really great smoked salmon in cream sauce garlic pasta. He makes fresh pasta and hangs them to “stretch” all over our flat. Heh. I sure am lucky.
Maybe he’ll make me some chicken burgers, too.
Hi Marie. I hope he continues to cook for you after you’re married.
I had an agreement like that with my wife. When she got pregnant, she said she couldn’t stand the smell of cooking food. But once it was on the table, she sucked it up like a vacuum cleaner. So, I took over all the cooking duties. 30 years later, she hadn’t taken them back.
Hey, Bruce, I showed you comment to my husband and suggested that we try your arrangement. He said, “Okay, hotdogs, eggs, hotdogs, eggs…” LOL
That looks so good, I’ll take a double!
Take him up on it. He may not like to cook, but I’m sure he likes to eat. It won’t be too long before he branches out to things like popcorn, Spam and Campbell’s soup. And who knows, someday dinuguan.
LOL @ Dot. I think we all did have doubles.
Bruce, I should tell you that he bought me a SPAM cookbook a long time ago. I never got around to cooking any of the recipes there but he pored over the pages for a long time until the book got “archived”. LOL
I LOVED your chicken recipe. Any thoughts on goose?
I am going to try Speedy-O’s chicken burger recipe.
I also love the food from Boy Ching Woo. My family lives in Tugatog, Malabon kaya lapit lang kami sa Caloocan branch nito.
My hubby doesn’t know how to cook, but my son loves to cook kaya siya na lang minsan ang cook namin (lol).
Nate, if only I knew where to buy goose…
Sam, pati presentation ha? hehehe
Lani, have you tried their pancit shanghai? ooh, i never could duplicate it at home.
Yeah Con, you have every right to be proud of Speedy. So good to read your blog and see how things have turned out. Can’t believe your eldest is 14! Wasn’t it just a few years ago that you were telling me about your wedding dress, and your clunky TV remote (long stick), etc., etc.? : – )
san po yun recipe nito…?=D
