Spicy pork steaks with tomato and mint salad

What Speedy and I had for breakfast yesterday were the same pork steaks that went into Alex’s school lunchbox. Small pork steaks, actually, less than half an inch thick and about three inches in diameter. I packed three for Alex so there were only two left for Speedy and myself. So I decided to serve our minuscule pork steaks with eggs and a salad.

But, first, let me tell you about how I cooked the pork steaks and what I seasoned them with.

I bought this jar of chili garlic sauce with ginger a few weeks ago. I already knew it was great as a dipping sauce but I wondered if it could be used for cooking as well. I found out yesterday morning — and the answer is yes.
I melted some butter in a pan and lightly fried the pork steaks. Then, I added about a teaspoonful of chili garlic sauce with ginger and poured in about a teaspoonful of light soy sauce for each pork steak, covered the pan and allowed the meat to braise for about five minutes.

The pork steak was really delicious. When Alex came home later, she mentioned it and asked what I put in them. I told her and assured her it was easy to make because I knew she’d want an encore.
Now, about the salad. Nothing fancy, really.

Just fresh tomatoes cut into small cubes, coarsely sliced lemon mint leaves (yes, from our garden) and a sprinkling of salt.

You’ll be amazed how fresh lemon mint leaves can perk up the flavor of tomatoes.

Uy, that chili garlic with ginger looks interesting. Super inggit ako sa garden mo!!! Hopefully my new herbs survive!
Am wishing the same for our herbs. Speedy’s so caring about them but there’s another typhoon coming over the weekend and herbs so hate getting inundated.
What a lovely breakfast! Mukhang mapapakain ka ng marami if breakfast is as good as this! Hindi mukhang boring-
I think that’s our best incentive to eat breakfast — make it something unusual. Home baked bread next hehehe
Sige, we’ll be waiting for your home baked bread recipes— I heard there’s nothing that can compare to the aroma of bread baking in the oven!
Oh, this looks like something my son will love. May I ask the brand name of the sauce and where you got it from? Thanks!
Hmmm, where did you get the chili sauce?
What a delicious breakfast, I will try to make it this weekend. By the way where can i buy the
Chili Garlic Sauce with ginger?
sana andito rin mommy ko para may nagpapamper sa akin ng ganyang kasarap na breakfast.
Ms. Connie, may I ask where did you buy your jar of chili garlic with ginger?
yum! my mouth is watering right now. drool! thanks for sharing the recipe ms. connie. i will surely try cooking this soon.
by the way, medyo off-topic but i’ll ask you nonetheless.:D what do you do to protect your stovetop and the cabinets in your outdoor kitchen from the elements? lalo na ngayong tag-ulan,hindi ba inaabot ng ampiyas ng ulan yung stove top? nainggit kasi ako sa gazebo kitchen mo and i plan to have one built in our backyard.:)
The stovetop- trapal muna hehehe There’s a cover that’s perfect for it but we haven’t had time to order from Ariston. The cabinets have been sealed and waterproofed.
thanks for the info ms. connie. keep the recipes coming!:)
Bought the chili garlic sauce with ginger from Landmark.
hi connie,
sounds yummy! i will try to find a sauce similar to that one. can’t wait to try fresh tomatoes with mint!
thanks for sharing!
Alam mo Connie, I prepared this one kanina as my son’s breakfast…though alam ko, it’s still short of the true taste of the dish that you prepared. I used chicken thigh fillets and because I did not have your chili garlic sauce, I made do with some minced garlic and Del Monte Sweet Chili Sauce…and added a tsp of soy sauce.
Cooked it in the non stick pan until it turned dry…Then for the presentation, I also didn’t have your mint… I had the tomatoes diced and just added some chopped cucumber. Ubos! Thanks for the inspiration…He said that this was what he needed for super energy because he still needed to finish 2 papers!
I was just telling Speedy that chicken instead of pork would probably taste just as great hehe
