Sunday lunch out
November 19, 2009 • Hello. I am currently out of the country and unable to respond to comments and e-mails. Rest assured, however, that future posts have been scheduled so new recipes will go live almost everyday during my absence. I'll be back soon with lots of stories and photos. Ciao for now! ~ ConnieMy brother-in-law, Raphael, celebrated his birthday recently and invited us for lunch yesterday. Native cuisine at GerryÕs Grill along Tomas Morato Avenue in Quezon City. It was my first time to visit this particular branch of GerryÕs. IÕve always gone to the Libis branch. The place was packed. We had to wait to be seated. We were a party of ten. What did we order? Sugba (below, left), for one. A mixture of grilled pork belly and kilaw (fish ÒcookedÓ in vinegar), itÕs one of my favorites at GerryÕs. We also had sisig (chopped grilled pork ears, face and brain), grilled chicken, bangus a la pobre (boneless milkfish fillets served with a sauce made with a mixture of soy sauce and kalamansi juice, then topped with onion rings and lots of toasted garlic bits) and, for our soup, we had this wonderful salmon belly sinigang (below, right).

Rating: Good food but we had to wait to be seated. And we had reservations. Duh!
After the heavy lunch, my husband suggested we have dessert and coffee some other place. His treat, he said, because IÕll be having my birthday on Wednesday. I suggested Annabel LeeÕs House of Cheesecake along Timog Avenue. I had been there a few times before and I liked their cakes. Unfortunately, it would have been better if I had kept my mouth shut. The choco mint cheesecake in the photo looks good. Sure. Everything looked good when we were ordering. And the varietyÉ ah, it was hard to choose with so many cheesecakes in front of us. The disappointment came with the first mouthful. The cheesecake had more gelatine than cheese. Talk about deteriorating quality. And to think that Annabel Lee cheesecakes are expensive. PhP 90.00 to PhP 110.00 per slice.
Rating: IÕm never going back to Annabel Lee. And IÕll never recommend it to anyone again. Ever.
