Welcome to my kitchen!

Note: If you’re wondering what happened to the kitchen we built in 2004, we moved to a new house on July 5, 2008 and this is the kitchen in the new house.

There are people who like to build showcase kitchens just so they can be admired. Many of these kitchens go unused because the dirty job of cooking gets done in an outdoor “dirty kitchen.” That weirds me out really because I don’t understand the point in buying top-of-the-line appliances and installing heavy-duty counter tops and cabinets then let them gather dust. We have a “dirty kitchen” too. But the only part of cooking that gets done there is the washing of used utensils and plates. The cooking gets done in the kitchen.

Let me show you. Let me prove that a kitchen can be BOTH attractive and functional. Click here or the first thumbnail below to start viewing the photo gallery.

No part of our kitchen is for ornamental purpose only. In fact, there is a hanging cabinet, originally built to display ornamental plates on stands, which we had to reinforce to make it functional (read the related story with the kitchen renovation photos).

  2. Thanks for the tour, Connie!

brenda, the spaciousness of the kitchen was one of the things that attracted me to the house. space is so, so precious in a generation when downsizing seems to be the trend.

Your welcome, Gay. A pleasure doing it. :)

At last! I have seen your new kitchen. Houseonahill is blocked here, what a bummer.

Your kitchen is to die for.

    hi connie,

I really liked the way your kitchen is designed. If i would have one made someday yours would be my model.
The granite counter top is great to lessen cleaning time plus excellent for making crusts.

    :D

Connie – Yours is a dream kitchen. Im so envious. Great work on it!

  7. Connie says:

Took a lot of work but after everything was done, it was worth every piece of headache. hehehe

Soloops, houseonahill.net is blocked — what?? Asus, by your office or your ISP? Asar ah.

Congratulations for a job well done. All you need now is your own TV show, first to highlight that transformation of an ordinary looking kitchen to one worthy of and for use by a professional cook. A video camera up there will have you and you and your step by step preparation and cooking on the spot for everybody to watch and enjoy. …if you say good things about Meralco or the Lopezes, maybe they might recommend you to their sister company ABS-CBN.

    Office, Ms. Connie. Bad trip.

When the time comes (meaning budget is ready) for out kitchen renovation, may I ask for a referral on who to call to do the work?

I have this dream where the kitchen with countertops and area for entertaining would replace our living room where nobody ever sits anyway bec. they want to be in the kitchen where I am and where the food is.

    Hi Connie,

Wow! What a nice kitchen, inggit ako. Yan ang dream ko to have a spacious and beautiful kitchen. I agree with you, kitchen should have enough space and it should be functional and just for display.
You’re not only a good cook, you are also a good interior designer. Keep it up.
This is my hobby now, to go through your food blog. It’s a theraphy. Thank you for sharing to us your recipe.

    Best regards, Susan

Soloops, a law office blocked my blog? Wow, my parenting ideas must be threatening. LOL Re renovations: the developer’s construction team did the work, we just specified what we wanted. I don’t think they can work elsewhere. I can help you with the furniture and lighting fixtures though.

JMonreal, I was offered a TV show (politics, not food) but TV isn’t my cup of tea. I’m going to produce my own internet TV show. :)

    Thank you, Susan! :)

Oh I am so jealous. What a gorgeous space!

  13. Marie says:

    Gorgeous kitchen, Connie! Congratulations!

You’re right, I always use my kitchen all the time too! It gets dirty but that’s part of it & I don’t even mind all the cleaning. Thanks for sharing it with us & welcoming us, your readers, to your lovely new home. It’s beautiful and you did an amazing work transforming it & making it your own. Looking fwd to more ideas! By the way, if you need custom made planters, plant stands, etc. maybe with your own design, I have a brother in Marikina with a machine shop biz. He used to do only shoe machinery parts but now that the shoe industry’s not doing well (sadly, they can’t compete with the low cost of China goods) he likes to branch out. Just call/txt Dan @ 0917-642-1356. He’s targeting both commercial & residential needs. Thanks!

Ms. Connie, Your kitchen is so elegant and looks very functional, too. I like your Range. I always like to have five-burner gas range. Maybe someday. I think food taste better cooked in gas than in electric stove. More power to you!!

  21. jinky says:

Hello Connie, thanks a lot for letting us peek in your beautiful kitchen. Our house is now undergoing construction and I been browsing a lot for a kitchen design, esp. the breakfast area. I was wondering what type of cabinet to be installed above. Your double sided cabinet gives me an idea. Thanks a lot, your not just a great help in cooking but also in interior designs..Keep it up and more power!!

  22. nina says:

Awesome! When I build my dream house, I also want a nice functional kitchen :) When I was a kid, we have things at home that are “for display only.” I promised to myself that when I already have my own place, I will not buy things that I will not use :)

  23. susi says:

yeah. I always wonder why people will install a drop-dead gorgeous kitchen and then cook in the “dirty kitchen”. For me that’s pathetic. We have granite counter tops too and it’s really useful huh Ms. Connie? You can place hot pans directly on top without damaging it.
